The Neerim South Wetland Walk, West Gippsland is located to the south-east of the town centre.
Once a weed-infested paddock, the wetlands now provide a community recreation space with environmental benefits. The wetlands are used as a sustainable water supply for irrigation of the Neerim South Recreation Reserve and Secondary College grounds to the north of the site.
This lovely walk is easy to miss as you drive through Neerim South but it is well worth a detour & a stop from the main part of town to stretch the legs & discover a really special wetland area. As you walk through the wetlands you will discover impressive sculptures along the way. My suggestion would be to grab a bite of something from the main street and then head down to the wetlands to enjoy the serenity which is just a hop, skip & jump from the main street. It is the perfect choice if you want to get out & about if you have mobility issues as it is a flat even surface with no steps or steep sections.
Vehicle access to the wetland is via Railway Rd. A walking track along Red Hill Creek connects the wetlands back to the town centre via Neerim East Road.
A toilet, BBQ shelter & interpretive signage is provided at the site of the Neerim South Wetland walk.
- Wetlands Loop – 530m – Easy, mostly flat even surface with no steps or steep sections.
- To Neerim South Town Centre via Red Hill Creek Track – 1.2km – Easy, mostly flat even surface with no steps or steep sections.
